Kaye (Kathleen Mary) Sneezum.

Rosemary`s Mother died, aged 100, on 27/1/2015 and,
Stuart, our retired Rector kindly returned to give the
following address:

RIP 27/1/2015
Auntie Kaye to numerous younger family members, nephew, niece and step grandchildren.

Born a hundred years ago (14/6/1914) at Ipswich. Parents were jewellers. Very happy childhood with a younger sister and
brother. Both parents worked in the business, but free time spent as a family, cycling, tennis. She remained close to her family
and to several friends from her schooldays.

Career. Trained as a nurse in Staines and London. Welfare Officer in a London factory during the War and served on at
underground stations during air raids as a nurse. She enjoyed London life, dressing up, going out. She made lifelong friends from
this time as a Nursing Sister. (Sounds rather like “Call the Midwife”!)

Marriage. She returned to Suffolk after the war and gave up work to marry Ray, a widower with two grown up daughters. She had
a daughter, Rosemary. Ray died in 1953 and she continued to live in Ipswich. She was one of a surviving handful of women who
were married to WW1 veterans.

Although more of a city and seaside person Kaye willing involved herself in, first her husband`s and then her daughter`s more
country pursuits.

Ipswich  Years. She was a regular attender at the civic church, was on the PCC and a member of the Mothers Guild, where she
again made several lifelong friends.

Felixstowe. After her daughter left home she moved to a flat in Felixstowe, a much loved seaside town where she was joined by
her sister Marjorie and her husband. She made friends at St Johns Church, including Eric and his daughter, Pat. She and Eric
enjoyed each other's company for several years. In her last years she was supported by her niece Jacky and nephew Peter, who
did the shopping and generally kept her afloat.

Daughter. Last summer Kaye had her 100th birthday party at Dallington, at Rosemary`s home, and thoroughly enjoyed herself. In
October she moved there permanently and settled in very happily for the last few months, where she enjoyed sitting in the window,
and helping with the cooking and washing up.

Personality. Kaye was a very private person, knew her own mind, she was determined and quite self-sufficient and remained
positive about life right to the end. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. She was a good listener, always
ready to give advice and support. She was not very interested in the past, but kept up to date with current affairs, listening to the
news and liked to keep up to date with news of family and friends. She had a good memory, was organized and considered
rather than spontaneous. She would not be rushed into action.

With her quiet sense of humour and wry smile, Rosemary and Roger think that Kaye would have enjoyed meeting Stuart and
indeed this service!
